About the
Subject:
Photonics is the science of light (photon) generation, detection,
and manipulation through emission, transmission, modulation, signal
processing, switching, amplification, and detection/sensing. Though
covering all light's technical applications over the whole spectrum, most
photonic applications are in the range of visible and near-infrared light.
Topics to be covered in this Seminar:
Quantum dots – optical transitions – electroluminescence emission
-Internal reflection and evanescent waves- plasmons and surface plasmon
resonance (SPR)- Attenuated total reflection-Near-Field Optics- Near-field
scanning optical microscopy -Interaction of light with cells-
tissues-generation of optical forces-DNA protein interactions-photonic
crystals- Presence of photonic bandgap-Dielectric mirrors and interference
filters.
